Shays Shoes was established in West End in 1901 by Bernard Shay who was a boot maker by trade. Dennis Shay, his brother, joined him and they established a thriving footwear and repair business. The Shay brothers’ industrious work ethic and pride in their craft made them a household name, with some customers even now remembering how their parents used to bring them in to buy them their school shoes. Dennis eventually bought the business from his brother Bernard, with his only son Greg, joining his father to keep this long lasting family enterprise growing and prospering. Greg took over the business after his father passed on and enjoyed every moment of it. He will always be remembered as a gentle, kind and friendly man passionate about shoes and his customers. Wayne, the younger of his two sons who has the same passion for shoes as his father, had accompanied his father in the business since he was a little boy. Wayne now manages the business with the help of his wife Moira. They have three sons, Nathan, Lucas and Isaac allowing maybe for yet another generation in the family business.
