Martel upholstery was established in Camberwell in 1989 by Mark Castaldi. In 1992 Ivan Mattucci joined the business as co-owner and company director. In May 2008, with a staff of six, Martel upholstery relocated to much larger premises just off Church Street in Richmond. The move placed Martel upholstery in the furniture heartland of Melbourne and provided much greater access for centrally-located interior designers and architects. Former clients from Camberwell, Hawthorn and Kew followed unhesitatingly and the new location has brought in new clients from nearby suburbs like Toorak, South Yarra, Prahran, Albert Park and the City. Martel upholstery has always been known for the high-quality of its traditional upholstering skills which are put to great effect in the restoration of antique pieces and classic furniture items. However Martel upholstery's real point of difference is its unmatched expertise and experience with mid- twentieth century modernist furniture. (See Mid-Century)
