Review about Melbourne Food Ingredient Depot, Brunswick East
I visited this shop today, only to come across the most shocking customer service one could imagine. I understand that it is owned by two business "partners" (possibly a husband and wife team). At first I encountered the male of the duo, who was sullen and terse when I asked questions about some of the products he was selling. He acted as if I should have known the answers already, becoming quite rude in the process... He was very snappy and arrogant. Anyway, this bitter attitude continued until another customer walked in the door (a nice fellow who has been running his own Marmalade business for a few decades)... Instantly, the counter guy (who'd been busy snubbing me and acting as if he was too good to answer my questions), pulled a 'Jekyl and Hyde'; he shook this guy's hand and began smiling and laughing (kind of like the jester does, before a king whose favours he seeks). I thought, "Oh my... I guess if you ain't got loads of money, you're not considered 'worthy' in this place of business) After this customer left, I politely confronted the counter guy about his terrible attitude towards me in contrast with this other customer (I said something along the lines of "... Why the different approach? Is it because I don't have my own business? ... You treat me so disrespectfully, and you honestly think you'll remain in business with an attitude like that?!"); to which his smug response was that I wasn't buying anything there anyway (I have bought several items there in the past), and that he'd been in business since 1996, so what did he have to worry about? At this point his partner/wife came out and witnessed the end of our discussion (she sussed out pretty quickly what was going on, and my guess is she's seen it many times before). The male then promptly got up and walked out. I mentioned what had happened to his stoney-faced "partner", and she responded with, "I'm not willing to apologise on someone else's behalf" !!! I was stunned. I thought, "What is really going on here? ... How can she honestly think what he has done is in anyway 'acceptable'?" With attitudes like that, I honestly do not know how these people are still in business. I for one, certainly intend NEVER setting foot in this shop again. Their collective attitude towards the "regular" potential customer, is nothing short of disgusting.
