History The Bellevue Hotel first opened its Paddington doors as The Elphin Hotel in 1880. This was at a time when rifle shooting was a favourite Australian sport, with many young men coming to the Bellevue after a stint on the Paddington Range. Some seventy years later, it received its first major overhaul, with the addition of a ladies parlour, making it one of the first female friendly hotels in Sydney, and one of the first to embrace excellent pub dining.
