Maria is a qualified homoeopath. She studied at the Melbourne College of Natural Medicine and the Australasian College of Hahnemanian Homoeopathy. Born and raised in The Netherlands, Maria started her nursing career in 1976. After 2 degrees in nursing (Psychiatric and Mentally disabled) Maria worked for 10 years as a counseller in the leading alcohol and drug detox-rehabilitation centre where she did individual and group counselling. After 10 years of this work and completing her degree in social psychiatric studies she took on a position with the Information and Prevention department advising the local and federal government on alcohol and drug policies. After migrating to Australia in 1991 and working as a psychiatric nurse using the allopathic approach, Maria was frustrated that the patients' illnesses and symptoms were being suppressed rather than cured. Homoeopathy treats you as a whole person rather than just treating the disease. This seemed like the ideal method of treatment to Maria so she took a 4 year course in homoeopathy and has been a qualified homoeopath and been practising as such since 1998.

We treat the nervous system to remove nerve interference. Our nerves supply everything in our body from muscles and joints to all our organs. If there is nerve interference the messages from our brain to all of the body and back is interrupted and the body does not not how to respond to its environment in the correct way. This can lead to all sorts of problems. From pain (back, leg anywhere) to dysfunction of all our organs etc. This nerve interference comes from the different stressors in our life, whether it be physical stress (falls, accidents, poor posture), biochemical stress (diet, smoking, drugs/alcohol), and psychological/mental/emotional stress (work, relationships, finance etc). It is our bodies way of adapting and dealing with these stressors, but our bodies have a tolerance level. It is capable of only dealing with so much insult before we start to notice things like pain and dysfunction. Our aim is to remove this interference and maintain/promote a healthy lifestyle.
