The Hobart Women’s Health Centre was founded in 1988. After 14 years of lobbying annual funding was received in 1989. From its inception the Centre has been run according to feminist principles. Initially Liverpool Women’s Health Centre NSW assisted with advice and training of health workers and the Centre continues to gain collegiate support from the Australian Women’s Health Network. The Centre acknowledges the support of the Department of Health and Human Services, Population Health. The Centre continues to seek additional funds from other sources to support individual programs. In accordance with Section 57 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 (Tas) Hobart Women’s Health Centre has an exemption granted to discriminate on the basis of gender in favour of women in employment (including recruitment processes and both paid and voluntary employment), and the provision of services and facilities.
