The Spindle Tree opened in June 1989 as a craft cooperative for Tasmanian fibre artisanship specialising in knitting, crocheting, felting, dyeing, weaving, and spinning. Two strong principles of the cooperative are that all works are constructed from natural fibres and are made by Tasmanian artisans. Currently we have an active membership of 15 artisans . We also stock work from a number of Tasmanian suppliers ensuring that local artisans have an outlet for their work. You can find us at Shop 009 within the Salamanca Art Centre in Hobart, Tasmania. When looking for the shop at the Salamanca Art Centre look for the spinning wheel and colourful mohair hanks. Items in the store are highly individualistic with members often creating their own designs using hand spun and hand dyed fibres. Many of the members have been awarded prizes at local and interstate agricultural shows. Recently four members received a number of first placings at the Hobart Royal Show. New work is accepted and on display every Thursday. This ensures that the stock is ever evolving and reflective of the interest and exploration of the fibre artisan who has produced the garment/item. We will also create to commission. You can provide your own design/pattern and fibre/yarn or discuss your requirements with us and we will supply the fibre. We are a Tasmanian Owned and Operated business in the heart of Hobart. We pride ourselves on our knowledge and customer service. Grant the owner of the store was previously the mechanic of the founder of the business Eddy Sewing Centre. In 1988 Grant brought the business from Eddy and has successfully continued operating and expanding the business under the Eddy's name until 2006. The shops name was then changed to EasySew for a simplified and straight forward identity. Still to this day many of our customers refer to us as Eddy's. We have a large range of sewing machines and overlockers on display. Not only do we have machines but we sell a variety of patchwork fabric, haberdashery, long arm machines, wadding, accessories and more. Easysew is a highly recommended fabric and sewing supply shop with knowledgeable and helpful staff. They offer excellent customer service, demonstrating products and providing advice. Their array of fabrics and array of sewing supplies attract visitors and return customers. Their team goes above and beyond to help with sewing machine issues and demonstrate techniques.
