The Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club was formed as the “Goolwa Regatta Club” some time prior to August 1854, and less than 18 years after European settlement of the then Province of South Australia. Its original object was to organise an annual regatta featuring various types of water sports between members of the fishing fleet based at Goolwa and those of the whaling fleet at nearby Victor Harbor. It is believed to be Australia's oldest such club. Today is it the home of Goolwa's Yachtting community, showcasing many events such as Racing and Cruising . The club's facilities are avaliable for members and visitors alike.

The Club The Club is located on the foreshore of Victor Harbor overlooking Granite Island and the waters of Encounter Bay. Most sailing takes place within the waters protected by the Granite Island breakwater. The licensed bar opens sailing days during the season and the galley also opens on sailing days to cater for lunch and the occasional evening meal. There is ample car parking, a grassed rigging area with access to the beach, a fenced off area, and plenty of beach to rig on. The club owns three support boats and a tractor. The Victor Harbor/Goolwa Sea Rescue facility is located next to the Club and their boats are available for any on water emergencies. Club Racing is mainly conducted on Saturday afternoons. The annual Rum Race is run in early May each season, which involves sailing around the local islands (weather permitting). The Club is a Yachting Australia Discover Sailing Centre. It is accredited to run the Discover Sailing Courses.
