Tourism is soaring at the Torrumbarry Weir Holiday Park. The park recently won an award of excellence for the most improved caravan park in the Goulburn region. Awarded by the Victorian Caravan Association, owner Peter Taylor said it was nice to be recognised for building the park back up. Mr Taylor and his wife Leanne took over the facility in 1999. In that time, they have taken the holiday destination from zero to four stars. Now with refurbished amenities, a new kiosk and shop, swimming pool and landscaped gardens, Mr Taylor said it had become a desirable destination. The park has also started to attract people on an annual basis. "Being between two to three hour driving range, we get a lot of people from Melbourne, " he said. "A lot of people, even in Echuca, don't know how lovely it is. You drive into the bush and the whole atmosphere changes." People mainly visited the area to fish or ski, he said. The level water of Torrumbarry Weir has provided ideal conditions for barefoot skiing. -- Riverine Herald, Wed Sept 13, 2006 Peter & Leanne Taylor.
