St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital opened on 9 July 1966 courtesy of strong community support and a significant contribution from the Bain Family of Jandowae. St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital receives no recurrent Commonwealth, State or Local Government assistance. The hospital relies upon community support to assist with meeting the growing needs of the community as well as introducing the latest technological advances in medical and surgical procedures. Role in the Community St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital is a teaching hospital of the University of Queensland through the Rural Clinical School based in Toowoomba. In addition, the hospital provides for student nurse training through the University of Southern Queensland and Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE. During 2005 - 2007, the hospital completed building developments totaling $12.0 million. Approximately 90% of all building contractors utilized on the building developments were local Toowoomba tradesmen.
