PCYC was established in 1937 by Police Commissioner William John Mackay. It was a partnership forged with the community via Rotary to provide young people with a safe and positive alternative to the streets. Over 75 years later that vision has grown and Police Citizens Youth Clubs NSW is one of Australia's leading youth focussed organisations. We provide an extensive and varied range of fun, safe activities for young people and the wider community. We are focussed on the reduction of crime by and against young people and on the promotion of citizenship within communities across the state.

Goodstart Cessnock was built in 2005 and we are a 75 place centre. We are located close to schools and not too far from local shops and community facilities. We cater for children aged between six weeks and school age. We are open 52 weeks of the year and are only closed on weekends and public holidays. We provide a comprehensive preschool program that focuses on 8 key learning areas including literacy, numeracy and technology as well as fostering young children's social and emotional development. Our educators are qualified, highly motivated early childhood professionals who provide play based programs that are designed around children's age appropriate skills, strengths and interests. All of the rooms - from Nursery to Preschool - are all set up in line with the Early Years Learning Framework, with sensory and play based learning opportunities. Our classrooms provide with creative and stimulating surrounds ensuring the children have the chance to grow and develop through sensory, play-based learning. Our Storypark platform, enable us to stay in close contact with parents and families, ensuring open and clear communication. Storypark assist our teachers and educators to tailor each program to the child’s individual needs, interests and strengths as well as providing our families with the opportunity to contribute to the program and share stories with everyone at the centre. Outside, we have two areas all with age appropriate play spaces and equipment. With sandpits, a wooden boat, tan bark area, bike track, vegie patches, mud pit and even a worm farm, there is lots of shade and space for the children to explore and play. Parent involvement frequently occurs throughout all rooms at the centre and parents, along with extended family members, enjoy coming together to celebrate special events such as our annual Easter Hat Parade, Grandparent's Day and end of year celebrations. We invite you to come in and have a tour of our lovely Centre.
