The Sheepmeat Council of Australia (SCA) was formed in 1978 and is the peak national body that represents and promotes the interests of lamb and sheepmeat producers in Australia. Our core business is policy development and lobbying. Sheepmeat Council is recognised as the prescribed industry body by the Australian Meat and Livestock Industry Act 1997. Sheepmeat Council’s key role is scrutinising the performance of and setting the strategic imperatives to be pursued by levy funded bodies, in particular, Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), Animal Health Australia and the National Residue Survey. Sheepmeat Council provides policy advice to the federal Minister for Agriculture and makes recommendations to the Minister on the rate of levy to apply. Sheepmeat Council of Australia is funded by voluntary membership subcriptions paid by State Farm Organisations and through the industry activities it performs for all sheep and lamb levy payers on behalf of the Red Meat Advisory Council (RMAC). Advocates and pursues the policy and political interests of the nation’s sheepmeat producers Promotes the professionalism of the sheepmeat industry in Australia and globally Influences key state, national and international stakeholders and forums, including Governments, to preserve and grow the position of Australia’s sheepmeat producers Scrutinises the performance and sets the strategic imperatives to be pursued by levy funded bodies, such as Meat & Livestock Australia, Animal Health Australia and the National Residue Survey Brokers industry and government programs and funding arrangements Represents and promotes the views of Australian sheepmeat producers in the national media.

Cattle Council of Australia was established in July 1979, bringing together for the first time all farmer organisations whose members had beef cattle enterprises. The mission of the Cattle Council is to represent and progress the interests of Australian beef cattle producers. Any beef producer in Australia can become a member of the Cattle Council of Australia. Membership is $100 + GST per individual (for those already members of a State Farming Organisation, the membership fee is waived). Any organisation representing the interests of Australia's beef cattle producers is entitled to apply for membership to Cattle Council. The Council has eight member organisations: Livestock SA.
