Liquefied Natural Gas Limited - Technology: Patent Overview LNG Technology Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (the Company) has technology that materially improves the efficiency and economics of liquefied natural gas (LNG) production plants. The Company has filed domestic patent applications in approximately 20 countries and regions around the world as part of its international patent program. The patents, (PCT/AU2008/001010 (“Patent 1”) and PCT/AU2008/001011 (“Patent 2”) when approved, together with world wide support in reporting and monitoring any intellectual property breaches, will provide protection for the Company's technology for 20 years. Patent 1 is titled “A method and system for production of liquid natural gas” and Patent 2 is titled “Boil-off gas treatment process and system”. The Patents cover an improved process called the Optimised Single Mixed Refrigerant (OSMR) process developed by LNG Limited. The heart of the process is a very simple single mixed refrigerant cycle enhanced by the addition of ammonia refrigeration. The process efficiency is increased by 30% over existing technology by recovering waste heat in a simple steam cycle which is then used to satisfy all process heat, electrical power and ammonia refrigeration energy requirements for the complete plant. The improved efficiency equates to a 30% reduction in fuel cost and CO2 emissions, per unit of LNG produced.
