Situated on Tasmania’s north coast with close proximity to the Port and Bass Strait, Montague Cold Storage in Devonport is ideally located for product distribution to the Australian mainland and overseas. After recognising the need for Simplot Australia, Montague successfully negotiated a long term contract to design and purpose build an adjacent cold storage facility in 1997 which enabled Simplot to store all WIP (work in progress) product produced in their manufacturing facility at the state of the art cold store. The two facilities are joined by a tunnel which transports product ex. Simplot manufacturing directly into Montague Cold Storage and back again for further processing at a later date. The function of the tunnel is to ensure the cold chain is maintained, to reduce transport costs for the customer and also ensure the product is protected from the elements, wind, sun, rain, dust etc. The facility is now 15 years old and continues to provide the required solution for Simplot that we set out to achieve when designing the facility.
