We are one of the most established coal mining operations in the western coalfields of NSW and one of the State’s leading exporters of thermal coal. We are a joint venture between Xstrata Coal Pty Limited (90%) and Mitsubishi Development (10%), with Xstrata Coal NSW (XCN) maintaining management responsibility for UCML. In November 2010, we were granted Project Approval (08_0184) from the NSW Department of Planning, for the continuation of existing and new underground longwall mining and open cut activities to produce up to 20 Mtpa of product coal from its mining operations for the next 21 years. We operate a twenty four hour, seven days a week mining operation, employing approximately 931 people, including ancillary contractors. In addition to underground and open cut mining activities, we also include a coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP), surface coal conveyors, coal stockpiles, a rail loadout facility, administration buildings, coal exploration, underground and open cut mining surface infrastructure, several underground access points and the Bobadeen Irrigation Scheme .
