After beginning a career in the Australian Defence Force, Lainie resigned and began her Physiotherapy degree. She graduated from La Trobe University with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy with Honours. Her Honours Thesis investigated the reaction times of older adults and the implications to their risk of falls. She began working with Total Physiocare in 2004, gaining experience in managing all manner of orthopaedic conditions.
