The Paperback stocks an extensive selection of new release and backlist titles, particularly fiction, Australian non fiction, history, poetry, classics, music books, Philosophy, Politics and Current Affairs and travel . We are happy to source books that we don't keep in stock. The Paperback Bookshop is an independent, general bookshop that was established in the early 1960s at the top of Bourke street and was then one of the few Melbourne bookshops to sell a good selection of Australian and imported books, particularly paperback editions of books not commonly available in Melbourne. Our charter has broadened since then and The Paperback does sell hardbacks now but still specialises in having a good selection of local and overseas books of interest to a broad but discerning audience. The shop is still open late and Pellligrini's café is still serving good coffee next door. We also stock cards and wrapping paper and various journals including The Monthly, New York Review of Books, Australian Book Review and others. We have a frequent Book buyers club and offer discounts to subscribers to RRR, PBS and The Writers Centre (Melbourne).
This Melbourne bookshop is a cozy and well-stocked gem, with a broad selection of books across various fields. Its small size offers a charming, old-school atmosphere, and the staff are known for their friendly faces and knowledgeable recommendations. Visitors can find rare and unique titles, and the shop stays open late, making it a popular destination for late-night browsing.
