Why it is so important to protect young eyes.
Prior to age 5, the chemistry development of chromophores that protectively absorbs UV rays in the lenses of adults is not present in children. As a result, their lenses do not filter UV rays with the efficiency of an adult eye. According to several studies, the average child receives approximately three times the annual UV dose of the average adult and up to 80 percent of lifetime exposure before age 20. Long-term exposure to UV rays can and does result in major eye diseases such as cataracts, pterygium, actinic & droplet keratites, pinguecula and macular degeneration leading to that terrible statistic above.
Who is Idol Eyes Australia?
We are an Australian owned second generation optical business that started in 1950. Firstly known as “Iris Optical Co; P/L” making prescription glasses (helping people to see) but by the mid-50’s we started making adult’s sunglasses as we knew prevention is better than cure. By the early-60’s we added children’s sunglasses. Then in 1987 we realized that we had to protect children’s eyes from birth so we started “Idol Eyes Australia” and made the world’s first baby sunglasses. We now export worldwide and are famous for making truly unbreakable and comfortable quality eyewear for babies.

As motherhood is progressively being delayed there is a sad consequence as more young babies are being born with severe eye sight problems. Until recently it was impossible to get a comfortable, unbreakable prescription frame. So we have added an Rx insert that can be fitted to all our baby sunglasses allowing high powered lens to be fitted.
