Mount Stromlo Observatory is a captivating destination in Canberra, offering expansive views of the city and ranges. Visitors can appreciate the history of Austalia's first observatory established in 1910 and enjoy the remaining heritage buildings. The site also features newer structures for astrophysics study by ANU and a functioning telescope. Winding roads lead to the summit, making it a popular destination for mountain bikers. Although the visitor center is often closed and communication with staff can be vague, the experience of stargazing and observing the night sky is highly recommended. The mountain is also a great location for hiking and picnicking, with plenty of parking and breath-taking views.
