Psychoanalysis is first and foremost about the unconscious. This is what makes us complex, reacting, feeling humans. Our unconscious speaks through our dreams, mistakes we make, words that don’t come out right, acts we play out even though we don’t really want to. It can drive us to the edge of ‘feeling crazy’. Our unconscious affects our bodies and our feelings; it speaks for us and through us, saying the things we really would never dream of saying to anyone else. It is hard work not saying these things. Not talking about what makes us angry, sad, anxious, sleepless, stressed, pressured, can make us feel a little bit crazy. We feel no-one really ‘gets’ us, ‘gets’ the harder things we want to say. Sometimes we get so caught up in repressing what we want to say it affects our bodies, which may unconsciously speak for us in niggling aches and pains that no doctor can diagnose or treat well enough. We tend to repeat. We repeat what some psychologists call ‘symptoms’. Sometimes we don’t notice that we are repeating our symptoms until it all gets too much, it all gets a bit too crazy, and something has got to give. We begin to ask; why did this happen to me again? This is where psychoanalysis is different. In learning what your own particular unconscious language is, you can make space to ? stop repeating behaviour which no longer works for you; ? understand what your own unique unconscious motivation is; ? discover where this unconscious motivation comes from—by talking about your childhood; ? learn what your dreams, jokes, mistakes, slips of the tongue and strange acts are telling you; ? make the absolute difference in which you can discover how to articulate your unique subjective position and your unique subjective desire. In discovering your unconscious, you can make the absolute difference that you desire in your life. Call me with any questions you might have about the psychoanalytic work, or to make an appointment to chat.
