Are you in a Job Search Bubble

24 April 2024

Most job seekers we speak to who have been having a tough job search experience, are stuck in what we call the "job search bubble." Looking at things from only your perspective, it's easy to get lost in the world of applications, cover letters, and unanswered emails. The cycle of frustration can lead to a broader, less targeted job search – ultimately resulting in fewer interviews, or landing roles that are off-centre.

If you feel like you're stuck in a bit of a bubble, here are our tips on how to break free:

➊ Shift Your Perspective. Don't dwell on the applications you've sent and rejections you've received. Stay focused, and invest your energy in the elements of your job search that are actually within your control.

➋ Become Their Ideal Candidate. Hiring managers don't know how keen you are on the role or how perfect you are for it. Your resume and cover letter need to showcase that value clearly and impactfully.

➌ Quality Over Quantity. Mass-applying dilutes your efforts. Invest your energy in tailoring your resume and cover letter to highlight your unique value proposition for specific, high-quality opportunities that align with your goals.

By understanding the hiring manager's needs and demonstrating your targeted value offering, you'll break free from the job search bubble and land the interviews you truly deserve (and actually want!).
