When is the best time to clean your windows

18 September 2013

As a professional window cleaner, I have to clean windows just about all the time.

However, there are certainly more popular times to have windows cleaned.  The most popular time is just before Christmas. Summer in general is by far the most typical time to have windows cleaned.

My theory for this is:

  • People do more entertaining during the warmer months, so they like to have the house looking good
  • When more visitors are likely to come around, householders don't want to be embarrased by dirty windows
  • The longer hours of sunshine mean that people notice the sun shining through the windows more, making them ever more conscious of their dirty windows

Having established that summer is the general time people seem to like their windows clean, what other factors in involved in the timing?

Cleaning widows that have direct sunlight on them can be hard. The water evaporates too quickly. The glare can hurt your eyes. So, in the shade is preferable.

Also, it can be hard when it is raining. Some windows get condensation on the insides of the windows, making it difficult to dry the clean window. If it's raining or even windy, it could be dangerous using a ladder to access the outside of the windows, so, best to avoid blustery weather.

Having said that, the best time to clean your windows is as soon as you feel you have the motivation. The results can really lift your house! In fact, you can clean the floors, the bathrooms, kitchens, walls and anything else in the house, but untill you've cleaned the windows, the house won't really feel clean.
