The Wickham hasn’t just had a renovation; it has undergone a complete transformation. It is now a place where people of all identities can meet, drink, party, and eat. Our refurbishment has seen a new corner bar where the previous dancefloor was, a vibrant outdoor oasis in what was formerly the carpark, an upstairs nightclub and a newly-refurbished gaming room. Day by day, we are breaking down social barriers while staying true to our LGBTI heritage. The Wickham is a modern, inner-city pub that is truly reflective of the community in which it’s found. Similar concepts can be found in many of the great cities of the world, and we are proud to introduce this progressive meeting place to Brisbane. The Wickham, est. History Established in 1885 and designed by the famous Brisbane architect Richard Gailey, The Wickham began life as the Oriental Hotel. Over the years, she’s reinvented herself time and time again, and has witnessed her fair share of floods, renovations and social change. In 1996, The Wickham rode the crest of the wave of social progression by becoming a gay bar. Today, The Wickham continues to be a trailblazer, transforming herself into a place people of all identities can enjoy, through some of the biggest physical transformations the venue has seen to date. Today, The Wickham’s iconic sign sits sentinel over busy Wickham Street. At night, her lights will light up in rainbow colours, a fitting salute to her past, present and future.
