Tri-Star has explored petroleum opportunities in the USA, China, Argentina, India and Australia. The company is involved in key aspects of the minerals and hydrocarbon supply chain, from exploration and development to production and marketing. Tri-Star’s current tenure interests include acreage in Australia and the USA. Founded in Texas, USA, in 1979 to explore and develop its Permian Basin oil reserves, Tri-Star began its Australian exploration in 1988. After 20 years of exploration and development in Queensland, Tri-Star’s Australian tenures form the bulk of its reserves. In Australia, Tri-Star operates both coal and gas interests, and is participating as non-operator in exploration and development joint ventures with members of coal seam gas (CSG) to liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects, including Gladstone LNG (GLNG) and Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG). The CSG tenures which Tri-Star discovered and developed at Durham Ranch, Spring Gully and Fairview CSG fields are not only the best in Australia, but some of the best in the world. Well productivity, production life, and proximity to major infrastructure and ports, compare favourably with other CSG fields in Australia and elsewhere. Tri-Star has explored coal deposits at its tenures in the Pedirka Basin in the Northern Territory and South Australia since 2006. Exploration to date indicates a substantial resource comparable with coal projects proposed for the Galilee Basin in Queensland. The group’s US operations continue to focus on production of West Texas Intermediate crude oil at wells in Texas’s Kent, Martin and Glassock counties.
