The Hold Bendigo, Golden Gully, VIC

The Hold is Bendigo's bouldering gym, cafe and licensed bar, at 80 Hattam Street in Golden Gully.

Bouldering is climbing without ropes or harnesses, over padded floors, on walls 3 to 4 metres high. Routes are set across six grade bands marked by the tag colour on the starting hold, from Yellow for a first session up to the purple Joker. Two auto-belay systems are included free with entry if you would rather climb higher on a rope.

No experience and no gear needed. Staff run a safety induction for every first-timer when they arrive, and climbing shoes and chalk are available to hire. Kids climb from age 5, and a supervising adult who is not climbing does not pay entry. Casual entry is $15 to $25.

Coached classes run for kids, teens and adults. There is a cafe and a licensed bar on site, so the gym works as somewhere to sit as well as somewhere to train. Auslan induction is available on request and the auto-belay section supports adaptive climbing. All abilities and backgrounds welcome.

Open Monday to Friday 8:30am to 9:00pm, Saturday and Sunday 9:00am to 9:00pm.
