Shellharbour City Arts Society

Formed in 2012 to enrich the arts in Shellharbour City and surrounding areas of the Illawarra, Shellharharbour City Arts Society (based in Shellharbour, New South Wales) aims to offer members access to art classes, exhibitions, and social opportunities while promoting arts in the area.

After forming with a small number of enthusiastic members, the inaugural exhibition of SCAS was held at the Albion Park Show. New members were recruited and as word spread of the new society, SCAS quickly grew to a group of over 50 members.

SCAS members have since participated in numerous group exhibitions at The Old Court House Wollongong. The Old Fire Station Kiama and Shellharbour Village Exhibition Space.

Members of the society are enthusiastic to the creative vitality of the region through consultation, exhibition opportunities, collaborations, and community initiatives individually and as representatives of the society.

The society has contributed to community art projects through KidsFest Shellharbour with the Jelly Fish Bloom, Shades of the Illawarra and the Arts Trail Killales. Members were involved in the Lake Illawarra Arts Trail, designing and creating Totem poles for the project and operated a successful Pop-up Shop Stocklands Shellharbour. Our local artists exhibit together several times a year.

The last couple of years have allowed the society to reassess its goals allowing the current members to explore their creative identity and reconnect with the roots of the society.
