When a clothes dryer is working, it puts several kilograms of water vapor as well as lint from the fabric into the air. This has a number of undesirable outcomes. Hence it is suggested that this air is vented externally to allow the dryer to run more efficiently, faster and to protect your home.

Do all Clothes Dryers Require Venting?
There a 3 main types of clothes dryers - vented dryers, condenser dryers and heat pump dryers. Only vented dryers need to be externally vented. All 3 types of dryers have their own benefits and disadvantages. Vented dryers are cheaper, simpler and do not require as much energy as condensor dryers - and are the most popular style in Australia.

Why Vent Your Dryer?
Whilst not legally required in Australia, we strongly recommend venting out your vented dryer to enjoy a number of benefits. Each time you use your dryer, you are putting several kilograms of moist air into (what is usually) a small room. This has a number of implication unless the air is vented externally
Venting will protect your house from damage from moisture and mildew that the moist air can create - such as peeling paint and structural damage.
Removing this moist air also allows the dryer to recirculate dryer air into the clothes dryer which will substantially reduce dryer times and thus decrease electricity usage. This is very important as the dryer is one of the most energy intensive appliances in the house.
Lint is removed from the dryer (which otherwise collects in the filter), which both keeps your house cleaner and reduces the risk of fire which can occur if lint builds up at the outlet of the dryer. The fire risk is increased when the filter is not regularly checked and cleaned It also saves this lint from getting back on your clothes.
