Many years ago I went through a period of turmoil in my life – just like many others have done and had pretty well hit the bottom. I went through a marriage breakdown and the settlements left me basically penniless (really). There were a couple of lessons in that scenario. Life and business are very similar in a lot of respects. Selection of your partners is absolutely critical to future success and contentment. The other part was knowing where I was at any point and I must admit I was a bit lost. Having come from a military aviation background I was really used to nailing the numbers – I had forgotten to be just as focused on my personal life. So the lessons out of that were simply to stay on top of the numbers at both home and in business. We can’t be effective if we pretend to be two different types and what we see often is that if it isn’t together at home then it sure isn’t in the business. I relate that to budgeting and we always see those that don’t budget at home don’t budget in their business and those that don’t manage their household cash flow certainly don’t manage their business cash flow – “How can I be overdrawn – I still have cheques in the chequebook!”

Ever since those days I have been passionate about passing on my experiences and helping those who want to see light at the end of their day. “Show me the numbers” became my catch phrase- you’ll never beat the numbers – so at Nailing Your Finances, we are passionate about the numbers so -
