MUDGEE HAMPERS - ABOUT US : Mudgee Hampers was founded in 1996 and is the mail-order gift division of Mudgee Gourmet. Both businesses are owned and operated by Mudgee vigneurons, Debbie and Tony McKendry, and specialise in delicious non-perishable foods made in the Mudgee Region of NSW by the districts boutique food producers. Several producers regularly compete in Fine Food Awards and many products have been awarded bronze, silver or gold medals. Mudgee Gourmet's country pantry is located at Vinifera Wines just five minutes from town on Henry Lawson Drive and among the vineyards. There is plenty of parking, a distillery, Spanish style wines and product tastings. Mudgee is the second oldest town west of the Great Divide (Blue Mountains) of New South Wales. The first European settlement in the district was in 1822. It is 500 m above sea level and enjoys a continental Mediterranean climate. Today the old pastoral market town is the vibrant centre of Mudgee Wine Region in the Central Ranges Wine Zone. In addition to viticulture, the Region has experienced rapid growth in non-traditional rural industries (such as olives and lavender) and associated boutique value-adding enterprises. A new range of locally made products - table olives, tapenades, extra virgin olive oils, hazelnuts, verjuice and lavender pamper goods - joined traditional gourmet products, like wine-mustards and farm-house jams and pickles. Visitors to Mudgee Gourmet at Vinifera are encouraged to sample products in a relaxed informal setting, accompanied by use tips, recipes and serving suggestions.
