He once tried to assassinate a Clusian King but was captured by the kings soldiers, when presented in front of the King he was threatened with torture by being burned. To prove his bravery Mucius placed his own hand into one of the soldiers camp fires and did not show any indication of pain. The Clusian king was so impressed by this act of bravery that he was freed to return to his homeland of Rome.
