Description
Key Industries was formed in 1967 by Bernard Hayes. The Company was originally situated at Green Acre. They were then as they are now; primarily a wood machining and assembly plant. In July 1974, they were successful in their tender to build and supply television and stereo cabinets for the Sharp Corporation Australia in an ongoing Capacity. In 1974 they were approached by National Australia (now Panasonic), and they were awarded a similar contract. This arrangement lasted 20 years until 1994 when wooden television cabinets were phased out for the cheaper plastic variety. In June 1979, they moved from Greenacre to Smithfield where they began to undertake a variety of other projects - from table tennis tables to organs. In 1983, Bernard Hayes invested in a CNC Machine Centre. This enabled a greater diversity in products to be manufactured while dramatically reducing the current cost of the major products. In 1986, they outfitted Fairfield Hospital with all built in and free standing furniture. In 1990 with the television's on the way out, Key Industries were fortunate enough to be given an opportunity, in conjunction with another company, to design, produce and deliver a range of coffins to several funeral homes in the Sydney region. By 1995, Key Industries had installed a minimum of eight CNC machines as well as a computer controlled beam saw. In August 1997 due to a need for more space & on going development, the company was moved to its current premises. The new factory has bought an opportunity to streamline production as well as allowing room for expansion into other areas of machining and assembly. Key Industries has always tried to remain a very flexible manufacturing facility while retaining the cost effectiveness of a specified production plant.
