Gowans Auctions is 100% Tasmanian owned and is a Hobart and Tasmanian Institution with origins dating back to 1939 when 2 Hobart businessmen, Clay Freeman and Fergus Duff boldly established Freeman Duff & Co in the first year of WWII. And now 80 years on, we conduct more Auctions than any other Auction House in Tasmania and sell on average 1500 lots per week making us one of only a handful of Auctioneers in Australia to do so.

We have sold some of Tasmania’s most important Antiques and hold a number of Australian record prices. We specialise in Deceased Estates and just some of our Vendor clients include most Hobart Law Firms and Trustee Companies as well as Commonwealth and State Government Departments including the Australian Antarctic Division and Tasmania Police.
