Fay had died suddenly earlier in 1982, and Fay's Twin was built in tribute to their shared vision of a brand new cinema complex for Taree. The first film, opening Boxing Day, was ET:The Extra Terrestrial, and from Day 1 the cinema has proven to be a great success thanks to the amazing support shown by the people of the region. Don continued to run the day to day operations of the cinemas until the early 1990's, while son Peter learnt more and more about the cinema business until he was ready to take the reins. Don still has some involvement with the cinemas in a technical capacity, however Peter and his wife Danielle (along with a fabulous staff, many of whom have been there for more than 10 years) now look after daily cinema operations, accountancy, advertising, and programming. The most successful films over the life of Fay's Twin Cinema to this point have been Titanic (1997/98), and Australia (2008/09). Perhaps suprisingly, followed by some Australian-made comedies, led by Crocodile Dundee (1986), Strictly Ballroom (1992), Muriel's Wedding (1994), The Castle (1997) and Crackerjack (2002). Australia (2008), Mao's Last Dancer (2009), and Avatar in 2010 have been recent standout successes. Other very successful and long running films at Fay's have included the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Star Wars films, ET: The Extra Terrestrial, and the Toy Story and Shrek titles.
