Dan's Plumbing were contacted to repair a garden hose tap. They charged a $155 emergency call out fee, and then quoted in excess of $1200 for the repair, which was disputed. In the end, they settled on a quote of $861, with a seniors discount of $86 bringing the total cost to $1022.89. The contact details is for Fergusons Plumbing, and the ABN is registered to Point Plumbing Pty Ltd. NSW Fair Trading have taken action in the past. After multiple calls to remedy this situation, I spoke to a manger who said price of the tap was fair as it has been an emergency (despite there also being a separate emergency call out fee charged) and when I tried to explain the situation about the association with disreputable contractors she accused me of being threatening.
While the quote was agreed to, it was done so with complaint and under duress given the need for an unwell elderly woman to have running water. This is not an isolated incident.
