Mid 1978 Peter and Afra Cameron mortgaged everything they owned and borrowed to their limit to commence the business of Cameron Caravans at 41 Aberdeen Street Albany selling the then top rated brand of Viscount Caravans. In the Early 80’s the business expanded to larger premises at 366 Albany Highway (now Albany Toyota Sales Yard), then Purchasing and moving to their current location at 356 Albany Highway in the mid 80’s. Over this period, Cameron Caravans had built an enviable reputation for honesty and integrity in their business dealings and unequalled product knowledge of caravans and sound caravanning advice. With the decline in market of the Viscount brand, Peter and Afra made the bold step of changing caravan manufacturers to the then fledgling WA built Coromal Caravans in 1988. In the same year, to further establish Cameron Caravans as a family business, son Michael joined his parents, commencing firstly in the Workshop and working his way through to Sales. The business weathered the many ups and downs with high fuel prices and extreme high interest rates being the low points, with the high points being the huge support of people of Albany and Greater WA. June 2003 saw the retirement of Peter and Afra and Michael taking over the reins. With Michael in control and the enthusiasm of youth, the business further expanded, adding more sales and service personnel, establishing sales and service records, being appointed Albany and Great Southern Dealer for Windsor Caravans, thus culminating with being named The Coromal Windsor National Dealer of The Year in 2013.
