Anna Charlesworth Glass & Metal Pty Ltd, Williamstown, VIC

I have worked in the glass and metal arts since 1989. I had the benefit of an informal apprenticeship with Melbourne-based glass and metal artist Mark Douglass, of the ‘Whitehall’ collective of artists based in Footscray. I learnt from on-site metalwork as well as glass etching and slumping techniques. Since 1995 I have worked on my own commissions in a Williamstown factory space with other metalworkers. I have produced wrought iron doors, fences, screens, furniture, balustrading and light fittings. Most of my pieces are custom made to suit individual clients’ specifications. More recently I have been commissioned by architects Meacham Nockles McQualter to make wall and pendant lighting designed by them for both residential and retail spaces. I have also worked with other artists on more sculptural pieces including the Branch Light at the Lisa Ho store at the GPO centre in Melbourne. The etched vases have been fun little side projects that I have made for friends and family mostly, a chance to work on a smaller, more intricate scale.
