Melatonin – Sleep Rhythm and so much more: Melatonin forms part of the system that regulates the sleep-wake cycle by chemically causing drowsiness and lowering body temperature. Secretion of melatonin, as well as its level in the blood, normally peaks late at night and gradually falls as you enter the morning. When functioning correctly, Melatonin assists by scavenging free radicals, regulating antioxidant activity as well as increasing the production of immune-optimizing substances when needed. This two part test will asses the over night behaviour pattern of your Melatonin identifying any irregularity which can normally be corrected.
Heavy metal toxicity is a common issue in Australia and many people are affected negatively their environment. Heavy metals, such as mercury, lead and aluminium, accumulate in the body over time and are suspected to lead to a wide spread of symptoms and health conditions (more below). Heavy metal toxicity is caused primarily by the levels of pollution and use of chemicals that we are exposed to on a day to day basis. The urine toxic metal analysis test is a remarkable tool for the assessment of fourteen toxic metals looking at the excretion of toxic metals in a 24 collection period. The 24 hour urine assessment is extremely useful for patients who are taking a chelating agent and wanting to assess the POST chelation of toxic metals.
The Toxic Metals Test (Oral health) measures 14 toxic metals already stored within the body and released before and after the chewing process. It is a useful test in cases where heavy metal toxicity, or sustained toxin release by way of braces, amalgams, fillings, dentures is suspected. Oral and Dental health (Primary) Long term use of medication, supplements (Potential use) Inadvertent accidental ingestion (Potential use) “Heavy metals are relatively scarce in the Earth’s crust but are present in many aspects of modern life. They are used in, for example, golf clubs, cars, antiseptics, self-cleaning ovens, plastics, solar panels, mobile phones, and particle accelerators.” – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
What is CAR? The Cortisol Awakening Response (CAR) is the rise in cortisol levels observed at 30 minutes post-awakening (approximately 35-60% above the waking value) followed by an expected decline one hour after waking. Why test the morning cortisol behaviour? The behaviour of cortisol is an important physiological response to anticipation of the day ahead and is a key indicator of central stress response system health. The waking, 30 minute, and 60 minute cortisol results comprise something of a “mini stress test”.
Why test the Cortisol Daily Pattern? Cortisol levels should peak in the morning and fall during the day in a distinct pattern. When this pattern is dampened and cortisol levels don’t rise properly in the morning, or stay too high at night this may be linked to symptoms of tiredness and disrupted sleep, chronic fatigue and other stress-related conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, fibromyalgia/pain, and cognitive dysfunction such as memory problems. Take this test to see if your symptoms may be related to a disrupted cortisol secretion pattern.
