Digital Retinal Imaging (DRI) is a scan that provides an image of the internal and anterior eye. The interior includes the retina, macula, optic nerve and vessels, and the anterior eye includes the cornea, conjunctiva and eyelids. These images allow your optometrist to detect and monitor subtle changes in the eye between visits as well as monitor and manage specific eye conditions. Detecting changes in the eye early allows for a more comprehensive treatment plan to protect the eye. DRI can assist the optometrist in managing and detecting changes in the eye associated with macular degeneration, glaucoma, hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes and cancers of the eye.

Many children we see for visual learning assessments have excellent eyesight, but poor ability to use their eyes to gather information in an efficient and meaningful way. Moving and teaming our eyes together can take practice and experience. During vision therapy, we work on developing sound visual efficiency and visual processing skills, as well as working on integrating vision with other sensory inputs.

About Your Checkup Plus™ Eye Examination At Eyecare Plus Ashgrove, our experienced optometrists will take the time needed to provide a thorough eye examination. We call this our Checkup Plus™. Your Checkup Plus™ examination with our optometrist will take between 30 to 45 minutes. During your examination, a health history will be recorded. It is important for you to provide all information, regardless of how insignificant you might think it is.

Behavioural optometry is an expanded optometry field where more than just the eyesight is considered. Behavioural optometrists believe that there is more to vision than reading the bottom row of the eye chart. Vision is a complex sense which integrates with all of our other senses to make us efficient at navigating our surroundings and gathering information. Our behavioural optometrist Sally Stevens will assess your visual function, visual efficiency and visual processing, which can be likened to the hardware, operating system and the software of the complex system that is our vision.
