Diabetes is a chronic medical condition that can have a major impact on a person’s health, including their feet. When diabetes is uncontrolled, it can lead to nerve damage and poor circulation, which can result in a variety of foot problems. Podiatrists play a critical role in the care of patients with diabetes by providing regular foot exams and specialized treatment to prevent and manage foot complications. By taking a proactive approach to foot care and working closely with their healthcare team, people with diabetes can minimize the risk of developing serious foot problems.
Biomechanics is the study of the structure, function and motion of the human body and examines the mechanical aspects behind human movement using the methods of mechanics. We perform a podiatry biomechanical assessment to identify variations in the skeletal system or abnormal movement patterns of the foot and leg mechanics. These measurements are then used to quantify how much a particular structure, or function deviates from the “norm”. The purpose of a podiatric biomechanical assessment is to ascertain the root cause and/or contributing factors that may be leading to issues that present to the clinic. Such conditions may include but are not limited to pains from the lower back down (including the lower back, hip, knee, ankle and foot), injuries, wounds, deformities and conditions pertaining to the foot and ankle.
Our sports podiatry injury treatment and rehabilitation programs are specifically tailored to the diagnosis of your injuries, musculoskeletal dysfunctions and management of your injuries both short term and long term.
Podiatric general footcare or general treatment refers to the general care and management of foot and ankle problems by a podiatrist. This may include the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of various foot and ankle conditions, such as bunions, hammertoes, plantar fasciitis, ingrown toenails, corns and calluses, and heel pain, among others. A podiatrist may use various treatment methods, including medication, physical therapy, custom orthotics, and in some cases, surgery. Additionally, podiatrists may also provide advice on foot care, including proper footwear, foot hygiene, and exercises to help prevent foot problems from developing.
