Returning in 1919 from active service at Gallipoli and the Western Front in France, William Leslie Brown commenced business at W.L Brown the Jewellers in a small shop opposite Camberwell Primary School in Camberwell Road. He had completed his Jewellers apprenticeship prior to his overseas service with AIF and to get started was able to make most of his stock. His specialty was 9ct and 15ct brooches and watch and neck chains, where he also melted, rolled and fashioned each link.
