Our 10th birthday party. It was a biggie!
1 decade, 10 years, 120 months, 520 weeks, however you say it, it’s a hell of a long time, especially for a bar.
Way back towards the end of 2002, a couple of astute, creative young hotel operators turned their vision of a quirky bar that served awesomeely cheap pizza, showcased the best local DJ talent and proudly shouted that we will be “always free and always fun” in to a reality. 10 years on and thankfully it’s remained true to its original mission statement.
Don’t be fooled by our dilapidated exterior adorned with an oversized cupie doll or the rustic vibe, the mis-matched couches and random furnishings are at the core of our artistic character.
To celebrate our foray into adolesence, we turned back the clock to when it all began. Our original pizza prices were $2 for lunch and $3 for dinner and so we went back to that pricing the our birthday week, and fuelled the party with the best talent hand-picked from the past decade. Names such as Mu-Gen, Adam Askew, Liz Millar, Agent 86 and a special Boogs vs Spacey Space superset were some of the highlights!
It’s like Broadsheet said “If you have change in your pocket, you’ve found a home at Bimbo’s.”
