In 1990 Dixie & Richard Schafrin recognised a coastal town with a booming tourist population needed a speciality surf store. They made the decision to split their department store and the first Saltwater Dream was created. A small store filled with Australian surf labels and shoes. The store was embraced by locals and tourists alike and soon their store was a hive of activity. In 2004, as the face of Batemans Bay shopping was changed forever with the development of the Stocklands Plaza, Dixie and Richard faced a turning point either grow with the towns needs or be left behind.
