Barnacle Guard is an Australian owned company, specialising in the cleaning, maintenance and protection of marine piles, pylons and piers. Based on the south-eastern coast of Queensland, Barnacle Guard is one of only few companies worldwide to specialise in this field, particularly on a residential scale. Recent achievements include the Barnacle Guard Maintenance Program featuring the innovative Barnacle Guard Pylon Protector. The aim of our company is to effectively provide our clients with a safe and attractive marina or pontoon, by focusing on the removal of tidemarks and accumulated marine growth from pontoon support structures in intermittent contact with seawater, and to above all further prevent stains and accumulated growth from reoccurring, specifically structure surfaces visible between the low and high tidemarks (the tidal range or “splash zone”) After a short time, marine piles, like all things frequently in contact with sea water, accumulate a variety of marine organisms, (such as oysters, barnacles, mussels and other shell forming organisms, as well as algal species, seaweed, sludge and corals) which can in some instance be corrosive to the exterior of the pylons, unhygienic, unsightly and present safety concerns to individuals and even watercraft, in the form of sharp shells and unpredictable surfaces. The Barnacle Guard Pylon Protector has been developed and tested to ensure the prevention of such fouling occurring… The Pylon Protector (pictured right) is a buoyant antifouling device that is designed to be fitted to marine pylons at the water’s surface, with enough working clearance to freely move in response to wind and the ocean’s natural forces (waves, tides, currents, and swells). As the Pylon Protector moves it actively cleans the outer surface of the support structure, frequently rubbing lightly on the pile preventing any fouling from accumulating.
